Join Friends Board Members Ken Copenhaver and Julie Filiberti for a birding walk on the Maquam/Black Creek Trail on Saturday January 19th from 8 AM until 10 AM.

The purpose of these monthly walks is to gather long-term data on the presence of birds, their abundance, and changes in populations.  Observations will be entered into the Vermont eBird database where data is stored by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society.  These walks are appropriate for birders of all skill levels and provide a wonderful opportunity to learn about birds throughout the seasons.  The walks are available for all skill levels. Binoculars and a bird field guide are helpful.  Dress for weather conditions.

Meet at the parking lot on Rte 78, about 2-1/2 miles west of Swanton Village.

–> NOTE government shutdown considerations:  During the shutdown, trails at the refuge have been open, but parking lots are not being plowed.  This afternoon, the parking lot had very little snow on it and no vehicle would have any trouble.  However, if it would snow this week, it’s possible that the parking lot will not be usable.  Our contingency plan is to park at the large pull-off about 1 mile west of the trail parking lot.  We will then shuttle participants to the trail head.

Hope to see you there!
